OpenAI is the San Francisco company behind ChatGPT and the GPT model families. Its current API lineup is the GPT-6 family: GPT-6 Astra for the most demanding reasoning and coding work, GPT-6.1 Sol as a lower-cost option close to Astra, and GPT-6 Luna for high-volume tasks, with several GPT-5.x models still available. In August 2025 it also released gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, Apache 2.0 open-weight reasoning models you can run on your own hardware or through most inference providers.
